Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB)

CAIB is a credential that sends a bright signal to your brokerage, your clients and the broker community. It increases leadership potential and provides a powerful, lifelong network. The program was developed specifically for insurance brokers with the input and expertise of brokers across Canada. Brokers immediately benefit from enhanced technical knowledge and business competency. The four modules can be taken in any order. Upon completion of the four exams you’re awarded the nationally–recognized designation.

CAIB

Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker

Offered in 3 formats – Self-Study, Online Group Discussion + Immersion in Winter, Summer + Fall semesters. All formats include the exam. Deadline to enroll is 3 weeks prior to the start date. Textbook/Study Guides are mailed 2–3 weeks following registration. Transfer fees apply to changes in exam locations and/or dates. Use of the designation is restricted to licensed Property + Casualty IBAO Member Brokers.

CAIB 1: GENERAL INSURANCE (5 Management Hours + 16 Technical Hours)
Personal lines risk, the role of government, the distribution channel, habitational insurance and related coverage, personal liability, farm risk, auto insurance and the role brokers play in the industry.

CAIB 2: COMMERCIAL INSURANCE (16 Technical Hours)
Commercial lines including property forms, underwriting, additional coverage, transportation, crime and business interruption.

CAIB 3: COMMERCIAL INSURANCE LIABILITY (16 Technical Hours)
Exposure identification and the Canadian legal system as it relates to general liability – commercial auto, marine, aviation, surety and risk management.

CAIB 4: BROKERAGE MANAGEMENT (20 Management Hours)
Human resources, culture, technology, operating systems, the relationship with insurance companies, financial management and monitoring effectiveness.

Online Group Discussion

Recommended for individuals who benefit from group learning. This format emphasizes active participation within a virtual classroom. An experienced broker guides 1–2 hour discussions once a week (evenings) via webinar. The exam takes place the week after the semester ends; location details are provided one week prior. Indicate your preference on exam location and we’ll arrange the closest location available. If you’re interested in in-class discussions, we’ll make arrangements with 6 participants minimum. Transfers, changes + cancellations are accepted 1 month prior. Immersion

Recommended for individuals wanting to focus on their studies. This format is an instructor-led, 5-day intensive course with hands-on exercises, group discussion and practical application. With Immersion you can complete your designation under a year. Exams are written in Toronto the last day of the course (Monday); individuals aren’t permitted to change exam dates/write elsewhere.
